Notebook 3 – OneNote for Mac?
Since switching to a Mac, there has always been one application for which I haven’t been able to find an equivalent. Windows users will undoubtedly have heard of Microsoft OneNote, which is the de-facto note taking application. Linux users have had Basket which does the same thing, but perhaps not as feature rich as OneNote.
There are lots of good note-taking applications out there for the Mac. None of these do however have the intuitive and easy to use interface bundled with the annotation features of OneNote. Some of the applications I have tried and have been using:
I finally found the Circus Ponies website which have a product called Notebook 3. I watched the screencast which shows most features in the application, and it seemed like a very interesting application to try out – and I was right.
Notebook 3 has everything one needs to read, write, collect and manage large information chunks. It can be used by students, in meetings, project management or almost anything. For an in-depth review, have a look at the above mentioned screencast.

Do you know other applications for the Mac which have similar qualities as OneNote?
I feel your pain. I rarely pull up XP under Parallels on my MacPro, and then only to run Quicken or OneNote. I do a lot of writing (blog and newspaper) based on web research and have found nothing since switching to Mac in January that comes close to OneNote’s versatility–among other things the ability to collapse entire pages of one-click-captured web text with images and hot links beneath a single visible descriptive phrase or line of explanatory text. So I use Devonthink, Voodoopad, Bean, Google Docs and Evernote trying to find a combo of several programs that can touch OneNote. Sigh.Someday, perhaps.
I disagree. I feel that Journler is superior to both Ponies and OneNote. I’m in the application all day long on my Mac.
I think that if Mark Twain were writing today he would have use Journler too. I wrote about it here…

From what I can tell from the website, PersonalBrain seems to focus on mind mapping. Even though it’s a very handy and comprehensive way of taking notes and brainstorm, it is sort of limited for other types of information, such as meeting notes. I will give it a go when I have time though — maybe it will change my mind.
I use SOHO notes which looks like Circus Ponies, which looks like EverNote and on and on. The bottom line is none of them are One Note, so c,mon MS do a One Note for Mac please.
Soho notes looks quite interesting, but like you say, nothing compares to OneNote.
